MAME 0.206

Welcome to 2019 – we’re starting the year with a bang! MAME 0.206 is an absolutely huge update when it comes to new dumps and newly working software, especially when it comes to TV games. As far as we know, MAME is the first V.Smile emulator with working controls and the most compatible, with almost all dumped titles fully playable for one player (the second joystick isn’t working yet). A number of JAKKS Pacific games based on similar technology are also working in this release. And from Japan, you can now play the Popira and Dance Dance Revolution Family Mat rhythm games, as well as Super Dash Ball. The Namco Nostalgia and Taito Nostalgia games are now playable, too. Game & Watch coverage is steadily expanding, with Black Jack, Lifeboat, Manhole (new wide screen), and Rain Shower added in this release. Black Jack is particularly notable as it hasn’t seen re-issue or emulation before now.
On the arcade side, San Francisco Rush 2049 and its Special Edition have been promoted to working, and we’ve added alternate versions and bootlegs of several supported games. Heihachi_73 has tested the Aristocrat Mk V slot machines, and dozens have been promoted to working. If you enjoy spinning the wheels, why not give some a try?
If you’re aware of the effort to preserve original Apple II software in the new low-level WOZ disk image format, it should come as no surprise that MAME is on board. We’ve started documenting these dumps in a software list, and we’ll continue to add dumps as they become available. If you’re a fan of Acorn computers, you might want to try some of the newly supported BBC Micro ROM slot expansions, including banked ROM devices, RAM expansions, and real-time clocks. A few additional Electron expansion devices have been added, too.
Of course, these are just selected highlights, and there are plenty more bug fixes and emulation improvements in this release. There are also some incremental improvements to MAME’s system and software selection menus. You can get the source and Windows binary packages from the download page.

Marvel's Spider-Man is simply the best opportunity to become Spider-Man. For a few dozen of hours at least.
AngryCentaurGaming - Unknown - Buy
"A great game, held back a bit by repeating missions structure and a couple small issues."
Areajugones - Juan Linares - Spanish - 9.5 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the best exclusive games for the PS4 and one of the best games in 2018 so far. Its world has managed to surprise us due to the huge amount of content it possesses as well as because of its funny and deep gameplay. Finally, its visual level is movie-like and keeps the player engaged by means of a great story.
Ars Technica - Sam Machkovech - No Verdict
Want a Marvel Studios twist on open-world superhero action? Then Spider-Man is a must-buy. Otherwise, try it.

Spider-Man games have a long history of being disappointing on some level, but Insomniac has crafted a game worthy of the name.
CGMagazine - Cole Watson - 9 / 10.0
I firmly believe Insomniac has crafted the best Spider-Man game to date. Whether you are a just a fan of the movies or a devout reader of the comics, Spider-Man is a console exclusive everyone who owns as PlayStation 4 needs to experience.

Insomniac Games have created the most immersive superhero game in a decade, which lays the groundwork for more Spidey adventures.
Critical Hit - Darryn Bonthuys - 9 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is charming and energetic, action-packed and surprisingly capable of tugging on your heart strings to deliver a one-two punch to the emotional gut. If you had to sum up Marvel's Spider-Man in one word, nothing would be more apt than…amazing.
Daily Dot - AJ Moser - 4.5 / 5 stars
Every prominent character featured comes across as a natural fit for the world Insomniac have built, as well as Marvel's detailed history. In a similar way, this feels like the most authentic Spider-Man game that's ever been made. It captures every aspect of the hero and his secret identity that fans have come to love, all while delivering a lengthy experience that feels like a childhood dream of defying gravity finally come to fruition.
Daily Mirror - JC Suttun - 5 / 5 stars
With a fresh take on the character in both story terms and gameplay, Insomniac have delivered a superb experience that harks back to when Rocksteady revitalised Batman with Arkham Asylum.
Marvel's Spider-Man is a brilliant, thoroughly needed entry in the superhero genre that is a must play whether you're a hardcore comics fan, casual Spidey aficionado or simply a lover of action adventures.
Destructoid - Chris Carter - 9 / 10.0
Spider-Man isn't just a great superhero game, it's a proof of concept for Insomniac as a company. This project shows that they can basically handle pretty much any universe, because if you can accurately recreate Peter Parker's nimbleness and gentle heart you can do anything: and with multiple teasers at the end, I think they'll get that chance.

Insomniac Games has given us Spider-man on a scale he's never faced before. They've crammed their story full of surprises, with multiple villains to bring down, and a set of trusted friends and tricky gadgets to even the odds. Will this big-budget re-telling of Spidey in his prime connect with fans? *Review Copy Provided by PlayStation
EGM - Josh Harmon - 9 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man mixes the prestige ambitions of a Sony exclusive with the hyperkinetic fun of a great superhero game. It's not a pairing you'd expect to work, but it mostly does here, though some aspects of the open-world design, like repetitive side content, let down the overall package.
Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - Recommended
A rare harmony of developer and licence makes Insomniac's open-worlder a total treat.
Gadgets 360 - Rishi Alwani - 10 / 10
Clocking in at around 30 hours to complete Spider-Man's main storyline, and more if you decide to go after everything else the game has to offer, Spider-Man for PS4 isn't just triumph for video games. It's quite possibly the definitive interpretation of the superhero in any medium.
Game Informer - Andrew Reiner - 9.5 / 10.0
The story shines as brightly as the gameplay – both deliver heart-pounding excitement
Game Revolution - Jason Faulkner - 4 / 5 stars
Spider-Man PS4 continues the awesome tradition we've seen emerge in the last decade or so of amazing licensed games. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the more repetitive side activities, but I had a lot of fun in general and gained a new appreciation of Spider-Man, enough so that I'll be checking out the comics when I get the time.
Gameblog - Julien Inverno - French - 7 / 10
Marvel's Spider-Man offers adrenaline rushes but also some free falls. If the incarnation of the Spider is breathtaking in this great playground that is New York, it is legitimate to hope a plot and more inspired missions while the formula is copied and pasted from recent Batman games. Spider-Man PS4 is solid and generous, but it lacks daring and originality.
GameMAG - xtr - Russian - 7 / 10
The new Spider-Man features an incredibly beautiful open world, dull bosses and repetitive tasks. This project will amaze you with its visual quality, but, on the other hand, may dissapoint you with monotonous gameplay.
GamePro - Linda Sprenger - German - 85 / 100
So far the best Spider-Man game with many great moments, but also a little diligence.
Gamersky - 不倒翁蜀黍 - 8.5 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man has some issues in some ways, but overall, it might be the greatest superhero game since Infamous: Second Son and Batman: Arkham Knight.
GamesBeat - Mike Minotti - 95 / 100
Score: 95/100
GameSpot - Edmond Tran - 9 / 10
A spectacular cinematic presentation and sensational core mechanics help Insomniac's take on a Spider-Man game shine, in spite of some unimaginative open-world activities.
GamesRadar+ - Leon Hurley - 4.5 / 5 stars
An immensely enjoyable and fun to play superhero adventure.
GameZone - Cade Onder - 10 / 10.0
With an emotionally rich story, gameplay that fulfills childlike dreams of being a superhero, and an engaging world with no shortage of puddles, Marvel's Spider-Man is not only the definitive Spider-Man game but one of the best games of the generation. Insomniac's not playing the "greatest hits" of Spider-Man, they're making a new era of the webhead that will go down as a groundbreaking age in superhero gaming.
Gaming Nexus - Charles Husemann - 9.5 / 10.0
Insomniac has delivered one of the best Spider-Man games to date by nailing all of the details—big and small.
GamingBolt - Aaron Main - 8 / 10.0
Some persistent issues might hold Spider-Man back from the incredible heights many were hoping it would touch, but a strong core, a great love and respect for its source material, and a number of incredibly fun mechanics make it a dream come true for fans of the famous wall-crawler.
GamingTrend - Pierce Turner - 90 / 100
I've 100 percent completed the game and unlocked the platinum trophy, but I can't stop swinging through the city and saving people. By the end, it really is your city with your people to help, your landmarks to admire, your jungle to swing though. This is the new benchmark for Spider-Man games and I can't wait to see what Insomniac does next.
God is a Geek - Chris White - 9.5 / 10.0
Everything I hoped it would be and more. Marvel's Spider-Man provides us lots to do, a great story, and some of the best visuals available on the PS4.
Guardian - Rick Lane - 3 / 5 stars
Spidey swings through the canyons of Manhattan in eye-popping style, but the set-piece supervillain showdowns are confused and messy
Hardcore Gamer - Adam Beck - 4.5 / 5.0
Insomniac Games has created the single greatest Spider-Man game and one of the best based on a comic book.
Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish - 90 / 100
With the speed, agility and proportionate strength of an arachnid, Insomniac brings back the beloved super hero with a game that lacks novelty, but shines in every aspect. Marvel's Spider-Man is amazing, spectacular, sensational and superior to any other wall-crawling, web-slinging video game.
IGN - Jonathon Dornbush - 8.7 / 10.0
I wanted Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 to make me feel like Spider-Man: To sail between the highrises of New York City, to nimbly web up hordes of enemies, and tussle with familiar, animal-themed villains. Insomniac Games' first foray into the world of Marvel handily delivers on all of that. But what I didn't expect from Spider-Man was to come away feeling just as fulfilled to have inhabited the life of Peter Parker. Aside from a few odd pacing issues, which momentarily took me out of the experience of being a superhero, and a world of optional missions that don't always quite live up to the heft of the main story, Insomniac has delivered a Spider-Man story that both surprised and delighted me, coupled with gameplay that made me feel like Spider-Man nearly every step of the way. The Wall Crawler's open world doesn't consistently deliver the thrilling moments of its main campaign, but the foundation laid here is undoubtedly a spectacular one.
IGN Middle East - Unknown - Arabic - 8.7 / 10.0
The best game you can play with Spiderman, you have to be ready to integrate into the world of Marvel and deposit the real world.
IGN Spain - Juan García - Spanish - 8.8 / 10.0
Probably the best Spider-Man game ever done, but still far from being perfect. Insomniac has made an excellent sandbox but its repetitiveness and some technical issues makes this game a bit less stellar.
Just Push Start - Grant E. Gaines - 9.5 / 10.0
Marvel’s Spider-Man isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t stop it from being a fantastic experience. The story takes a while to get going but the end is more than worth the wait. Add in a fun, fluid and flashy combat system and it makes for a delightful journey. Sure, at times it drags, like during the forced stealth sections, but these are not enough to ruin the experience. Between all these things, fantastic graphics, a good selection of costumes and more, I can not suggest Marvel’s Spider-Man enough. Even if you’re like me and not the biggest Spider-Man fan, it’s a good enough experience to make it worth your time.
Kotaku - Ethan Gach - No Verdict
As a playground for one of the most idiosyncratic superheroes of all time, Marvel's Spider-Man is sheer bliss. It's a sandbox platformer first and foremost, and a damn good one. Throughout playing the game I was constantly hounded by the question of whether this—sublime superhero traversal in a gorgeous, idealized version of New York—were enough. After countless hours later spent cleaning up every last icon on the map, I'm convinced they are.
LevelUp - Rodrigo Muñozaltea - Spanish - 0 / 10.0
M3 - Anders Wollner - Swedish - 7 / 10
We can say that the game variant succeeds very well in imitating movie performances.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 7 / 10
The best Spider-Man game ever made… but only just, since it fails to move the superhero video game genre forward in any important way.
MonsterVine - Spencer Legacy - 5 / 5
Marvel's Spider-Man completely understands both the character of Peter Parker, and what it is that makes a Spider-Man game fun. Though it has more than a few technical hiccups, Spider-Man is a fantastic action game that can only improve with future installments.
NEOsite - Paweł Musiolik - Polish - 9 / 10.0
Spider-Man from Insomniac is for games what Homecoming is for movies. A piece of great game with amazing graphics. Fans of Man-Spider will be ecstatic. The others will be delighted with the quality of the whole game. Strong contender for GOTY.
New Game Network - Alex Varankou - 83 / 100
Marvel's Spider-Man combines exciting traversal mechanics, varied combat, great presentation and plenty of content to build up enough momentum and swing by the underwhelming story and boss battles without getting caught in a web.
Next-Gen Gaming Blog - Ben Ward - 9 / 10.0
Overall, Spider-Man is the game that a lot of people hoped it would be. An incredible traversal system that will have ironically been protoyped on a competitor’s exclusive title, a franchise with instant mainstream appeal and a story that, without giving anything away, sets things up nicely for a sequel without feeling lacking, all combine to make Spider-Man a must-play for 2018.
Oyungezer Online - Yasin İlgün - Turkish - 93 / 100
Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man masterfully succeeds in every attempt it makes to tell an "Amazing, Spectecular" story. A must play!
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Max Parker - 8.8 / 10.0
This is the Spider-Man we know and love, but so much so that it's to a fault. "Spider-Man" for PS4 does more than enough to make comic fans and webhead fans happy. It clears the middling bar for Spider-Man games. It's the best Spider-Man game ever made. But, its uninspired narrative keeps it from reaching the heights of the "Arkham" series. Admittedly, that's a tough series to top. This is just the beginning for this new vision of Spider-Man and his journey, and his best tales may be waiting around the corner.
PlayStation LifeStyle - Chandler Wood - 9 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man doesn't innovate on the open-world genre, but Insomniac doubled down on creating a spectacular Spider-Man fantasy. It simply feels good to travel through Peter Parker's New York as the webslinger, even if whatever Spidey-suit you choose is covering a competent and entirely expected open-world formula. Filled with more emotion, heart, and humanity than we've seen in superhero adventures before, Insomniac doesn't need to reinvent the open-world wheel. Marvel's Spider-Man embraces the man behind the mask and gives us the best interactive Spider-Man experience to date.
PlayStation Universe - John-Paul Jones - 9.5 / 10.0
A welcome return for PlayStation's original superhero icon, Insomniac Games have not just given us another sublime PlayStation exclusive but also the best superhero blockbuster the PS4 has ever seen. Spider-Man is a thunderous, essential triumph that bleeds cinematic splendor from every digital pore. Every PS4 owner needs to have Spider-Man in their collection.
Polygon - Chelsea Stark - No Verdict
Filled with heart-pounding, high-flying action, Spider-Man is a polished, fun and sometimes frustrating PS4 exclusive
Post Arcade (National Post) - Chad Sapieha - 8.5 / 10.0
Insomniac's wall crawling adventure is polished, pretty, and playable, but also just a little too safe to be declared an open world masterpiece
Press Start - Brodie Gibbons - 10 / 10
It's hard to fault Marvel's Spider-Man as Insomniac has taken their game to the next level. As a developer, they have gone from strength to strength and Spider-Man is a culmination of their past hits. There's a stunning verticality that compliments the game's watertight mechanics and, despite the literal boundaries, still makes the city seem boundless. If you're a Marvel die-hard, there's enough fanfare here to sink a ship as Spider-Man emerges as the new gold standard. Spider-Man is, without question, the best superhero game ever.
Push Square - Glen Fox - 9 / 10
Ultimately, Marvel's Spider-Man is a must-buy, because no matter how you feel about our webbed superhero, this is just an insanely fun game to play, and it's so well put together. Just like the Arkham games did for Batman, this pretty much provides the definitive version of the Spider-Man universe outside of the comics, and leaves us begging to explore more of it in the inevitable sequel. Webslinging is bliss, combat is fantastic fun, and the extra content and collectibles are varied and infrequent enough not to overwhelm. What's more, the plot and characters are an unexpected surprise, with some fantastic performances that are genuinely touching. Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the best games of 2018 so far, and every PS4 owner will feel proud to own it as part of their library.
Saudi Gamer - عصام الشهوان - Arabic - 8 / 10
A polished effort in terms of gameplay and control that is enjoyable if not distinguished, and is buoyed by its smooth traversal and fun fighting system, with suitable graphics and story. =
SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - 8 / 10.0
The best video game adaptation of Spider-Man so far, but with flaws in its side-content, generic bossfights and uninspired plot.

Slant Magazine - Steven Scaife - 3.5 / 5 stars
Spider-Man's mechanics feel fluid and satisfying enough to keep players engaged throughout the entire campaign.
Spaziogames - Matteo Bussani - Italian - 8.5 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is a huge tribute to the superhero. The original story is written around him and has great moments.
Stevivor - Steve Wright - 9.5 / 10.0
Spider-Man is a heroic masterpiece, and one certainly worth playing.
Telegraph - Tom Hoggins - 4 / 5 stars
Yes, the swinging is sensational.
The Games Machine - Danilo Dellafrana - Italian - 9.4 / 10.0
Despite the lack of real challenge, Marvel's Spider-Man is an absolutely excellent title, with a fascinating, iper-detailed Manhattan and an incredible amount of high quality contents. The best game of the "web-slinger" ever.
TheSixthAxis - Gareth Chadwick - 9 / 10
Marvel's Spider-Man does a spectacular job of making you feel like the ultimate Spider-Man. From swinging through the city at high speed to fighting off legions of enemies by zipping between them and pulling them into the air, its gameplay looks like a scene from the films. It's remarkably well realised in terms of its world, design, and even technically, with short loading times and a rock solid framerate even on the base PlayStation 4. If Spider-Man is your thing then this is an essential purchase.
TrueGaming - عمر العمودي - Arabic - 9 / 10.0
The swing between New York's buildings has never been so great. No previous game of Spider-Man has provided this kind of excellence with play style and storytelling.
TrustedReviews - Jake Tucker - 4 / 5 stars
Marvel's Spider-Man has a surprising amount to say for itself and continues Sony's run of best-in-show first party exclusives. Comic book fans will fall in love with Insomniac's loving rendition of the webhead's Manhattan, but fans expecting the next God of War might find themselves a little disappointed.
Twinfinite - Chris Jecks - 4.5 / 5.0
After 30 hours, I've wrapped up Spider-Man's story, completed a substantial amount of its side content, and have almost got every suit mod and skill in the game, and I just want to keep playing. Though it has a few minor blemishes here and there, they're never significant enough to really detract from the overall experience.
USgamer - Mike Williams - 4.5 / 5 stars
Insomniac Games takes Marvel's most popular character for a spin and the results are fantastic. The developer establishes its own Spider-Man with a unique supporting cast and a beautiful recreation of New York to play around in. This is an absolutely beautiful game, with solid combat and a great story. Most of all, it really sells the feeling of being Spider-Man. The gaming history of Spider-Man has been uneven, but this is an amazing entry in that history. Pun intended.
VG247 - Alex Donaldson - undefined
Spider-Man is at its best when you're mid-flow. It's a game that can capture that awesome trance-like feeling where you're so in tune with the rhythm of swinging and hopping between buildings or dodging, countering and attacking enemies that everything else melts away. That's when it feels most special, and it's then that what Insomniac has achieved here is most plain. Much of its design is familiar, but it appears here in a refined, polished form that makes it an easy recommendation.
VGN - Giovanni Marrelli - Italian - 8.5 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is definitely the best game about one of the most beloved character in the comics history, but despite the great efforts of developer Insomniac Games, the new adventure is not perfect, especially when it comes to boss fights, which follow the same pattern over and over, and the quality and variety of the side contents, which tend to be boring after a while. It's a shame, because the combat system and the swinging are two of the best aspects of the game, and the team should have focus on creating more original and complex side adventures, quests and activities to take advantage of the biggest features of Marvel's Spider-Man.
Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 8.8 / 10.0
Insomniac Games created something very special with Marvel's Spider-Man.
VideoGamer - Colm Ahern - 8 / 10
While some of the antiquated trappings of open world games from years gone-by are present, Spider-Man manages to remain a delight through great acting performances, a compelling story, terrific combat, and joyous swinging.
Wccftech - Kai Powell - 8.8 / 10.0
Insomniac has found a way to weave together the human side of Peter Parker with the combat and web-slinging of Spider-Man to create a web of intrigue that any PlayStation 4-owning superhero fan should play.
We Got This Covered - Shaan Joshi - 4 / 5 stars
Despite a few missteps in its open world design, Insomniac Games has delivered on its promise. Needless to say, this is the best Spider-Man game to date.
Worth Playing - Redmond Carolipio - 9.3 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man does what a lot of good art does, which is examine techniques and concepts that work well, and then blend and refine them to create something unique to itself and possibly greater. I've made this point before: Art and artists have built on and inspired each other since the beginning of time. So yes, I've heard and seen the Spidey/Arkham hot takes, and I ended up not caring at all because at no point did I forget I was playing a Spider-Man experience. I was too busy swinging around in Manhattan, with buildings whipping by as I tailed a police pursuit, thinking about how right it all felt.
ZTGD - Ken McKown - 9 / 10.0
Spider-Man is yet another outstanding title in Sony's first party library. PS4 owners should not hesitate to snag it when it drops. The quality they put into these titles is impressive and Insomniac continues to prove they can deliver on big-budget titles. Even with its minor gripes I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with Spidey and the gang. Perhaps we will see another one in the years to come, but for now this is the best our web-slinger has been since the early days of the PS2 era.

Atomix - Claudio Quiroz - Spanish - 85 / 100
What a pleasure to finally see a Spider Man game that manages to make us feel very powerful, like a superhero and better yet worthy of the popularity and legacy of this iconic character.
Attack of the Fanboy - William Schwartz - 4.5 / 5 stars
Spider-Man games have a long history of being disappointing on some level, but Insomniac has crafted a game worthy of the name.
CGMagazine - Cole Watson - 9 / 10.0
I firmly believe Insomniac has crafted the best Spider-Man game to date. Whether you are a just a fan of the movies or a devout reader of the comics, Spider-Man is a console exclusive everyone who owns as PlayStation 4 needs to experience.
Cheat Code Central - Jenni Lada - 4.9 / 5.0
I do wish that the differences between difficulty levels was a little more obvious, as I felt the Friendly difficulty level might not have been amiable enough to allow less skilled or younger players to enjoy the adventure. Overall, Marvel's Spider-Man does the hero justice.

Digital Trends - Phil Hornshaw - No Verdict
Whether a fan of Spider-Man himself, the open-world genre, or action games in general, Marvel's Spider-Man is an excellent example of each.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4 / 5 stars
Spider-Man was never not going to deliver on its promise, and as much as I enjoyed my time with it, I still hold out hope that at some point the industry will start to question whether empty, superficial fun really is the peak of what its biggest projects can offer.
Easy Allies - Brandon Jones - 9.5 / 10.0
Everyeye.it - Giuseppe Arace - Italian - 8.3 / 10.0
Insomniac Games just hits the jackpot. Marvel's Spider-Man is a spectacular game, with a dynamic gameplay, but it lacks inspiration and originality when it comes to the side quests.
Game Rant - Anthony Taormina - 5 / 5 stars
Marvel's Spider-Man takes the best parts of the comic book superhero and brings them to life in interactive form courtesy of Ratchet and Clank developer Insomniac Games.
This is now the best Spider-Man game, taking the crown from Spider-Man 2. It is also one of the PlayStation 4's best exclusives and one of the best super hero games ever.
IGN Italy - Gianluca Loggia - 8.3 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is undoubtedly the best Spider-Man videogame ever made, but it could have been a lot better.
LevelUp - Rodrigo Muñozaltea - Spanish - 9.3 / 10.0
Marvel's Spider-Man is a very fun game. It has an Excellent battle system joined by a fluid and addictive transportation method that only a Spider-Man game could have. Not only this game delivers on all it's promises but it also gives us an original story that can be well adapted to a movie. Marvel's Spider-Man is clearly made by fans for fans and it will let you discover a new dimension of Spidey, Peter Parker and all of his allies and enemies. Even though the story sometimes moves too quickly, and it has some minor problems like a lack of variety of enemies this is a game you should play if you are a comic fan, a hardcore gamer or just a casual gamer that wants to have a good time.
Shacknews - Kevin Tucker - 9 / 10
Marvel's Spider-Man is at once a fantastic action game, a dramatic story-driven adventure, and a love letter to fans of Marvel's ever-endearing wall-crawler. It's also one of the strongest titles in Insomniac Games' catalog, and will no doubt be counted not only among the best games of 2018, but also among the best PlayStation 4 exclusives ever released.

Marvel's Spider-Man is a huge tribute to the superhero. The original story is written around him and has great moments.
Stevivor - Steve Wright - 9.5 / 10.0
Spider-Man is a heroic masterpiece, and one certainly worth playing.

AngryCentaurGaming - Jeremy Penter Buy Buy This is absolutely a 'Buy'. I get it that some people aren't a fan of this genre, it won't magically make you so, but the fact is what it does is it changes the form and function of the particular expectations we have for this genre and the titles therein. Additionally, it's IPs you wouldn't expect and they nailed it. Switch
Eurogamer - Oli Welsh Recommended Recommended This wonky crossover is the unlikely source of a superbly designed tactical combat challenge as well as a charmingly silly adventure. Switch
GameXplain - GameXplain Liked-a-lot Liked-a-lot All in all, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle shocked me. It's a concept that sounded pretty dumb on paper, and yet, the developers pulled it off–and more. The battle system is brilliant, and truly rewarding, the presentation is impressive, and even the Mario and Rabbid gangs compliment each other well. The only things that slightly mar the experience are the lacking adventuring elements and a few user-interface issues, like the lack of camera-control that could have improved the battle system even more. But despite these issues, I liked Kingdom Battle a lot, and it is now one of my favorite games on Nintendo Switch. Switch
Kotaku - Patricia Hernandez Unscored Unscored Mario himself might not have been my favorite part of the game, but the reverence with which the game's creators hold Mario and friends was evident in every inch of this adventure. And it helped make the game come together so well. Switch
Washington Post - Christopher Byrd Unscored Unscored "Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle" has lots of charmingly frivolous things to think about and it's easy to collapse into its world of tactical antics because its gameplay is so absorbing. In the most complimentary sense, it feels like something Nintendo might have done if its humor was a bit more rough. Switch
VGChartz - Daniel Carreras Unscored Unscored If you had told me last year that one of my favourite games of 2017 would involve Rabbids I would've called you crazy. How wrong I was - it turns out having a franchise as solid and polished as Mario does wonders to ground the humour of the childish Rabbids, and ensures this is one of the most downright enjoyable strategy games I've played in quite some time. Switch
ZTGD - John Whitehouse 95 9.5 / 10 All of the nods to the Mario universe, how many staples of said universe feature in how the gameplay works with this unique title and the attention to every little detail makes this not only a fresh take on a classic character, but possibly my favorite Mario game ever. Switch
Marooners' Rock - Alex McCumbers 92 9.2 / 10 I can only hope this relationship with Nintendo and Ubisoft continues, because aside from Breath of the Wild, Mario + Rabbids is the best game on the Switch. Switch
Cheat Code Central - Jenni Lada 92 4.6 / 5 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a game that will surprise people. The level of quality and depth here is absolutely extraordinary. There are some very well thought out levels that involve doing more than just fighting one or two foes. The character movesets mean you'll have favorites you rely on often and others you find yourself needing for specialized situations. The campaign and hub are structured in a way that encourages you to return to retry levels or access new areas with recently acquired Beep-0 skills. It is one of the most charming and detailed games I have played in 2017 and I suspect it will go on to become one of the Switch's most memorable titles. Switch
Cerealkillerz - Gabriel Bogdan - German 91 9.1 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is definitely offers the best from both worlds with a touch of XCOM. Tactical veterans will miss some challenge in most of the game but besides that the game is probably the best entry into the world of tactical RPGs. Also Super Mario and Ubisoft Fans will enjoy the amount of easter eggs and secrets hidden in the game. Switch
VGProfessional - Nazih Fares 91 9.1 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the kind of exclusive the Nintendo Switch deserves. Gorgeous, simple to learn, yet difficult to master, this collaboration between Ubisoft and Nintendo is a work of art that nobody should miss on Nintendo's latest console. Switch
Nintendojo - Andy Hoover 91 A- Considering how disparate all the elements found in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle appear on the surface, everything comes together astonishingly well when experienced as a whole. Switch
NintendoWorldReport - Daan Koopman 90 9 / 10 The developers at Ubisoft Milan and Paris took their time to figure what works about strategy games and elevated it to a form that can be enjoyed by many. Add to that the pure cleverness of the adventure, and what results in an absolute must play for Nintendo Switch owners. This is the best game the Rabbids have starred in and they only needed Mario to achieve it. Switch
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive 90 4.5 / 5 While not a traditional Mario or Rabbids game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle contains enough elements from both franchises to appeal to fans of either series. Switch
GameSpot - Edmond Tran 90 9 / 10 The unlikely collision of Mario and Rabbid franchises is delightfully charming, and features a deeply satisfying turn-based tactics system underneath its colorful skin. Switch
Spaziogames - Stefania Sperandio - Italian 90 9 / 10 A crazy and extremely fun mash-up, embellished by an excellent combat system and a compelling soundtrack by the eternal Grant Kirkhope. Switch
GearNuke - Khurram Imtiaz 90 9 / 10 Despite being one of the most crazy collaboration so far from Nintendo, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle ends up being a highly competent strategy RPG with an addictive combat and progression system. Switch
Press Start - Shannon Grixti 90 9 / 10 It’s not often you get something like Kingdom Battle, and while I feel like kids expecting an easy adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom will be in for a bit of a shock, those craving a deep, strategic, and uniquely different escapade through the Super Mario universe will be met with a game that shines as one of 2017’s best. Switch
USgamer - Mike Williams 90 4.5 / 5 stars Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a game that sounds like it shouldn't be any good. On the contrary, Ubisoft has crafted a charming adventure for Mario and its Rabbids. The game streamlines the strategy combat experience while still offering surprising depth. Its world is absolutely beautiful, full of color, life, and hints of Mario's long history. Mario + Rabbids has no right being this good. It's not perfect, but it stands as one of the better gaming surprises of 2017. Switch
Nintendo Insider - Alex Seedhouse 90 9 / 10 Whether you still struggle to comprehend the unexpected collision that the irreverent Rabbids have had with the Mushroom Kingdom or not, in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Ubisoft Milan readily proves at every turn that even the wackiest ideas can result in a sensational experience. With infectious humour, it will soon win you over to prove itself absolutely unmissable. Switch
Twinfinite - Zhiqing Wan 90 4.5 / 5 All in all, though, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is yet another fantastic game you should have in your library if you own a Nintendo Switch. It's clear that Ubisoft respects the sanctity of these iconic Nintendo characters, and the game certainly does them justice. Kingdom Battle might not be the most challenging tactical RPG around, but it does offer a satisfying combat flow, and provides ample opportunities for players to come up with interesting strategies and team compositions to complete a map with. Switch
Slant Magazine - Jed Pressgrove 90 9 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the most creative turn-based tactical games in years. Switch
We Got This Covered - Dylan Chaundy 90 4.5 / 5 stars Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is an absorbing and addictive experience that combines unpredictable, tactically deep, turn-based strategy gameplay and dexterously imbues it with the humor and heart of a traditional Mario adventure. Switch
Do You Even Game Bro? - Kieron Verbrugge 90 9 / 10 A trip to the Mushroom Kingdom by way of Ubisoft and the Rabbids, this risky move pays off with an addictive and challenging turn-based strategy RPG full of great fan service and more than a few laughs. Switch
Nintendo Life - Thomas Whitehead 90 9 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a must have for Switch-owning fans of turn-based tactical games. More importantly, such is the style and depth on offer that it's also ideal for those that haven't played much of the genre, for whom 'X-COM' sounds like a silly acronym from a war movie. It introduces the concept in the best possible way, and then utilises its own ideas for what becomes a smart and - at times - deliciously challenging experience. It's perfectly acceptable to be surprised by Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, as many have been since its E3 reveal. The end result delivers on all of the potential that we could suddenly see back in June; even if you don't actually like the Rabbids, this game - and its familiar Mario cast and setting - is so good that Ubisoft's mascots are likeable. Well, almost. Switch
Atomix - Aureliano Carvajal - Spanish 90 90 / 100 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the game that every third-party should aspire to create for the Nintendo Switch: its fun, inspiring, and just seems to push the hardware to its limits. Ubisoft did a great job capturing Mario's world and gives us a very entertaining experience. Switch
Easy Allies - Michael Damiani 90 4.5 / 5 stars Outside of a few other minor blemishes like jarring animations during cutscenes, Mario + Rabbids is a great game that has a lot of unique elements you simply can’t find in other strategy RPGs. Ubisoft puts all concerns to rest with an amazing effort that hopefully paves the way for more collaborations with Nintendo. Written Switch
Player. One - ND Medina 90 9 / 10 Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a unique game that takes strengths from both properties and refines them into a kid-friendly tactics adventure game that keeps going long after the final boss fight, with plenty of things to collect, secrets to find, challenges to beat and even a Season Pass promising a bevy of future content. Switch
GamingTrend - Noah McGuire 90 9 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle features excellent turn-based strategy gameplay and buttery smooth combat and animations. A fluid and fun must-have for Switch owners and strategy fans alike. Switch
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury 90 4.5 / 5 stars Mario + Rabbids could have been so much worse than this, but somehow Ubisoft's really done something special with it. And, as one of the rare cases where Nintendo has loaned its most precious property out to a third party, Ubisoft has done something that, I hope, Nintendo itself will be proud of. Switch
CGMagazine - Joel Couture 90 9 / 10 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a gorgeous adventure and an engrossing tactical romp, offering a solid challenge and some unique combat quirks that will please tactical fans. Switch
COGconnected - James Paley 88 88 / 100 With every successive stage the potential dangers grow, and new ones are always being added to the pile. Switch
Everyeye.it - Marco Mottura - Italian 87 8.7 / 10 A quirky crossover that seamlessly blends two universes apparently far away, a compelling strategic game that despite its simplicity has a lot of depth to it (and one that could be a perfect introduction to the genre) and above all a production that truly captures that special, peculiar Nintendo feel: well played Crying Ubisoft Man, well played. Switch
IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish 87 8.7 / 10 Sometimes crossovers surprise us by bringing together in the same title two apparently disconnected licenses like these. In addition, the game allows us to see an unprecedented genre in the adventures of the italian plumber as is the turn-based strategy, and the result could not be better for this debut. Switch
IGN Italy - Gianluca Loggia - Italian 86 8.6 / 10 Simply put: one of the best games available today on Nintendo Switch. Switch
LevelUp - Juanem Reyes 86 8.6 / 10 Underneath the odd blend of Mario with the Rabbids lies a very good SRPG. Its combat mechanics are frantic, fun and complex enough to make the whole campaign a joy to play. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a nice surprise, there is no doubt about it. Switch
GamePro - Mirco Kämpfer - German 86 86 / 100 Excellent Mario-Rabbids-Crossover with beautiful worlds, deep character system and strategic battles. A must-have for the Switch. Switch
GamesBeat - Mike Minotti 85 85 / 100 The Switch has had a great debut year, and Mario + Rabbids is another, if unexpected, excellent addition to its software library. Switch
GameSpace - William Murphy 85 8.5 / 10 If you own a Nintendo Switch, you want this game, period. I didn’t know I wanted this mashup, but now that we have it, I can’t wait for the DLC, and I definitely want sequels. Switch
Game Informer - Jeff Marchiafava 85 8.5 / 10 While Kingdom Battle's puzzles won't win any awards, the robust selection of challenging tactical battles entertains from beginning to end. Switch
Worth Playing - Cody Medellin 85 8.5 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is another excellent addition to the Nintendo Switch's bustling first-year library of enjoyable titles. It does a great job of being accessible enough to lure strategy newcomers while also providing a good amount of challenge to vets. It comes with plenty of content to keep players going in solo and multiplayer modes, and every battle is entertaining. With a presentation that matches some of the better Super Mario titles out there, Mario + Rabbids is a perfect fit for your library. Switch
EGM - Ray Carsillo 85 8.5 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle may not be the deepest tactical RPG, but it delivers a solid all-around experience that takes advantage of the strengths of both Mario and the Rabbids—making for one of the most surprisingly enjoyable game experiences you're likely to have this year. Switch
Pardis Game - Sina Rabiee - Persian 85 8.5 / 10 In the end, we can say that Mario+Rabbids has become one of the best adventure games of the year by utilizaing interesting and innovative ideas which are presented in the form of a strategic gameplay, an exemplary game in terms of variety with a proper approach for the design that will bring you memorable moments. The only negative factor and disappointment of the game is the lack of an online part which prevents us from enjoying the game with others, whilst the game itself demands. Switch
Reno Gazette-Journal - Jason Hidalgo 85 8.5 / 10 Mario + Rabbids delivers a fun and refreshing take on the Mario experience that only scratches the surface of this new tactical shooter's potential. Difficulty can vary wildly and the inability to save mid-battle might frustrate some folks while also making the game a bit tough for a younger audience. Its combination of humor and solid tactical gameplay, however, makes the game exactly the kind of title that Nintendo needs from third-party developers to build up its new system's library. Switch
SA Gamer - Garth Holden 85 8.5 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle perfectly captures the essence of Mario and XCOM franchises and wraps them into a highly enjoyable, easy to learn tactical experience. Switch
TrueGaming - عمر العمودي - Arabic 80 8 / 10 This game, all in all, deserves to be played even if you are not much of a Strategy games fan because Ubisoft had elegantly produced a "Nintendo" title which perhaps may surpass even Nintendo themselves if they had released a Mario game in the strategy genre. Switch
DualShockers - Logan Moore 80 8 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has a special charm to it, which is something I didn't expect to say when first hearing about the project. While the allure of these two franchises coming together may be the draw for many, the surprising depth to its combat and the replayability that it offers are the real highlights. The fact that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle turned out as well as it did makes me hope to see Nintendo work with other developers again in the future to utilize their beloved characters in new, unique ways just like this. Switch
Areajugones - Álvaro Giménez - Spanish 80 8 / 10 Mario and Rabidds come together in a videogame with high doses of humor, entertainment and style. Ubisfot and Nintendo join forces to create a great exclusive for Nintendo Switch. Switch
Polygon - Russ Frushtick 80 8 / 10 Mario + Rabbids manages to walk a narrow road, offering up a legitimately challenging squad tactics experience without alienating the family friendly Mario audience. While it doesn't quite have the full layer of spit and polish of an in-house title, Ubisoft comes damn close to capturing that Nintendo magic. Switch
GamesRadar+ - Stuart Andrews 80 4 / 5 stars Mario + Rabbids gives you the action and strategy of XCOM in a way that does justice both to Mario and to the Rabbid's kooky style. Ubi's big E3 surprise is an unmissable Switch game. Switch
TheSixthAxis - Dave Irwin 80 8 / 10 As strange as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle sounds on paper, there are some really good ideas in the mix. Having XCOM's battle gameplay presented in a more light lighthearted fashion and greatly enhancing character movement are both excellent touches. It's not perfect, but there's a lot to like from this unlikely combination. Switch
God is a Geek - Nick Gillham 80 8 / 10 Easily the best game the Rabbids have ever been in and quite possibly Mario’s best non-Nintendo spin-off. Switch
Arcade Sushi - Luke Brown 80 8 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the best mash-up games in Ubisoft and Nintendo's partnership, and is a surprisingly strong strategy game to boot. Switch
TrustedReviews - Brett Phipps 80 4 / 5 stars Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is yet another great Nintendo Switch exclusive, and one of the most original Mario titles we've seen in a long time. It may not do much outside of the core combat, but even that is enough to keep you entertained for its duration. Switch
Game Rant - Riley Little 80 4 / 5 This zany crossover from Nintendo and Ubisoft goes beyond initial expectations, setting up one of the more accessible and enjoyable turn-based strategy games in recent memory. Switch
Gamers Heroes - Johnny Hurricane 80 8 / 10 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a good first step towards what will hopefully become a series for Ubisoft and Nintendo. Fans of Mario games, strategy RPGs, or even Switch games in general should grab this without hesitation. Switch
FNintendo - Pedro Meleiro - Portuguese 80 8 / 10 If a tactical turn-based RPG based on a crossover between the Mario universe and the Raving Rabbids seemed extremely unlikely, then Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle makes it all very real and with gusto. Thanks to its fun and deep combat system, a variety of abilities and characters to choose from and overall magnetic appeal, this game is set to gain a place in the heart of fans and newcomers to the genre alike. Switch
VideoGamer - Colm Ahern 80 8 / 10 While Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle may have been the crossover that no one wanted, it's materialised as a really good one with some interesting systems, despite its smattering of shortcomings. It shouldn't work, but it does. Switch
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral 80 8 / 10 Despite owing so much to XCOM, this is a fantastically imaginative and enjoyable strategy game that's as accessible as the genre has ever been on consoles. Switch
3DNews - Иван Бышонкoв - Russian 80 8 / 10 Doesn't matter if you're a fan of a tactic games or a newcomer to the genre, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will please you with colorful looks, great maps design and addictive gameplay. And this adorable rabbids will definitely steal your heart. Switch
IBTimes UK - Ben Skipper 80 4 / 5 stars Nothing about Mario Rabbids should work. It's enough of a shock that Ubisoft Milan managed to bring together these two worlds so well, then it successfully makes its cast the stars of a genre none of them has ever been near. Robust in how it plays and confident in its presentation, Kingdom Battle is exactly the kind of bold and fun exclusive Switch needed in its first year. Switch
Wccftech - Dave Aubrey 78 7.8 / 10 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle looks, plays and sounds better than you would've ever expected from such a confusing crossover - an interesting take on the X-COM formula that can start to feel tedious, but starts amazingly and will keep many players stuck into the turn-based strategy shooter. Switch
IGN - Dan Stapleton 77 7.7 / 10 Based on its colorful world, beautiful animation, and source material you might expect Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle to be “My first turn-based tactics game.” But you're in for a surprise: even for XCOM vets some of its battles are challenging puzzles. Some of its tougher levels do devolve into a trial-and-error slog, but a good mix of enemies, objectives, and character abilities keep things interesting. Switch
Destructoid - Chris Carter 75 7.5 / 10 Other than the campaign there's some challenges to embark upon (which didn't really catch my interest), or a limited co-op mode. I'll be honest here, it's nice that they have it, but it's a little strange given that the story is single-player -- you'd have to catch your partner up to speed with your happenings unless they've played it. The learning curve isn't too steep (which is part of its charm), but I wish drop-in/drop-out multiplayer was just fully integrated. Switch
TechRaptor - Alex Santa Maria 75 7.5 / 10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle gets more right than wrong in creating a casual and fun tactics experience, but tedious puzzle sections and a shotgun approach to Mario references holds it back from greatness. Switch
New Game Network - Josh Hinke 71 71 / 100 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is very charming and the whole aesthetic is a labor of love. However, pesky gameplay shortcomings and a nasty difficulty spike halfway through hamper this Nintendo love-letter. Switch

2016.06.08 00:50 tisbutahumbug Everything we know about Sombra so far.

Sombra has been revealed and will be playable on the PTR next week! Animated Short, Origin Story, Gameplay Trailer.

I've missed some important details from last week. If you're looking for an accurate and detailed description of each step, visit the Game Detectives wiki.

Hello! To help some people out (and to clean-up my previous mess), I'm going to compile every single image and bit of information we have about Sombra in this thread. Please forgive me for the horrible formatting. ._.

Sombra (ARG)

This is everything we know so far about the word Sombra, the name Sombra, and how it's referenced/treated in-game. If something is not Sombra, it won't be in this section. ARG things will be located at the bottom of this section.
  • There is an interaction in which Reaper says "Where is Sombra when you need her?"
  • This is a picture of a newspaper in Dorado. The Spanish phrase translates to "Who is Sombra (or Shadow)?" Location in Dorado.
  • A picture of some classified files, including Soldier: 76, Jack Morrison (who's now Soldier: 76), and Sombra.
  • On the third point in Dorado, there are security terminals that say "UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS. PROTOCOL SOMBRA."
  • Countdown voice lines were added for Sombra at some point. If you're interested in listening to them, go to this Curse link and download the r7-release. Apparently a lot of things were mislabeled, and the voice actually belonged to Pharah.
  • So we all know how Sombra translates to "shadow" in Spanish. Since quite a few of the heroes are references to mythological figures, this may be a reference to Santa Murte, also known as "Señora de las Sombras" or "Lady of the Shadows", a saint with strong ties to Aztec and Mexican culture. Quote unquote from Wikipedia: "The two most common objects that Santa Muerte holds in her hands are a scythe and a globe. The scythe can symbolize the cutting of negative energies or influences. Also, as a harvesting tool, it can symbolize hope and prosperity. Her scythe reflects her origins as the Grim Reapress ("la Parca" of medieval Spain), and can represent the moment of death, when it is said to cut a silver thread. The scythe has a long handle, indicating that it can reach anywhere." This sounds a lot like a support sniper, in my opinion.
  • In the recent Ana Amari Origin Story trailer that showcases her past, some redditors have decoded two messages that appear in the form of flashes. Before I explain everything, this thread contains the decoding of the second message, and this thread contains the decoding of the first message. Basically, the decoding of the second message led to a message: "She who has the information, has the power." This might hint at Sombra being the 23rd hero, specifically a hacker-type hero (hence Protocol Sombra). Anyhow, the first message looks somewhat similar from a glance, but if you decode the the last four characters of the first picture, and the first two characters of the second one:
    S O M B R A
  • Some voice files have been datamined from the PTR. A lot of things are hinting toward a stealth hero. Listen to them in this thread.
  • In this interview, Jeff Kaplan confirms that Sombra is not Ana:
Now, I think they’re seeing in hindsight how they got misdirected because I’ve still seen people comment that one of Ana’s skins, the one with the mask on. They’re like, “Why is she wearing Sombra’s mask?” And they’re like, “There’s that thing in Dorado.” Then, somebody will correct them immediately and say, “It wasn’t in Dorado. It was actually in Egypt,” which makes perfect sense for Ana. We were not trying to get people’s wires crossed between the two characters.
  • A message was found in the newest Dev Update video. The full thing can be found in this thread, but basically they gave us this message:
Estuvo eso facilito? Ahora que tengo su atencion, dejenme se las pongo mas dificil
  • Translation:
Was that easy? Well, now that I have your attention, allow me to make things much more difficult.
  • The newest comic shows that Reaper knows about Sombra.
  • A ton of new goodies have been found after the release of the Summer Games update:
    • A code was found behind Tracer in the Summer Games trailer. This thread contains lots of discussion about how the code should be deciphered.
    • Is Sombra hiding behind Lucio? It appears that this has been debunked.
    • Mysterious directions were found in the newest trailer, with each of them being connected to a point on the compass. Here are the directions, and here is the thread.
    • A Skycode was found on Dorado. Really, really mysterious. Here's the thread. Seems to fit rather nicely on the fountain... The Skycode doesn't exist.
  • Thread. This distorted image of Dorado was just discovered half an hour ago. The following Spanish text was discovered:
"Por que estan mirando al cielo? La respuesta no esta sobre sus cabezas, esta detras de ustedes. A veces, necesitan analizar sus logros previos."
  • Translation:
"Why do you look to the sky? The answer is not above your heads, it's behind you. Sometimes, you need to analyze your previous achievements."
  • A new clue was found today. If you go to playoverwatch.com and Inspect Element the "?" achievement, you'll get this. The Spanish translates to "Good, not bad. However I'm bored, let's try something new in the same direction." Image taken from this thread.
  • Thread. The section of code in the "?" has been successfully deciphered! It resulted in a url leading to this datamoshed image of Volskaya. The following message was found, along with an ASCII skull:
"Parece que te gustan estos jueguitos... por que no jugamos uno de verdad?" (Translation): "It seems you like these little games.. why don't we play a real one?"
  • It's August the 23rd, and now we have this mysterious post from Skycoder!. It should be noted that the time on the post appears to be counting down. The title is binary and translates to 23. The page begins to glitch after a few seconds, resulting in this text box (there's also a flying image of Reaper on the page):
"la que tiene la información; tiene el poder" (Translation): "She who has the information, has the power."
  • Then the message is replaced by another code:

  • It was immediately recognized to be Base64, and the translation led to the 2nd ASCII skull. Two different methods were then used to decipher the skulls, and they both resulted in the same message:
Les prometi un juego...creo que ustedes los Detectives de Juegos lo llamarían un trailhead? BLZGDUSA-AMBAS-CALAVERAS.HTML
  • Translation:
(Translation):I promised you a game...I believe you Game Detectives would call it a trailhead? BLZGDAUSA-AMBAS-CALAVERAS.HTML
  • "USA-AMBAS-CALAVERAS" translates to "USE-BOTH-SKULLS". BLZGDA is the server Blizzard uses for hosting media, so this video was found after using the full url. You can find the following in the properties:
Parecen estar muy interesados en estos "héroes". ¿Tal vez les interese conocer algunos detallitos que he averiguado sobre ellos? You seem to be very interested in these "heroes". Maybe interested to know some details that I found out about them?
  • Janina Kowalska literally translates to Jane Doe, so we can assume that patient in the dossier is actually Ana Amari. The heartbeat monitor spells out "amomentincrime" if you assign letters to the lines it pings. A reference to this video featuring Junkrat and Roadhog.
  • The website amomentincrime.com only contains the following:

  • The Protocol Sombra version updated to v1.95 after 5% was reached. The percentage increases at a rate of 0.0038% every 3 seconds, so it'll either reach 100% on October 16-17th (the speed has slowed down a bit, so it's set to reach 100% on the 18th0or 23% on September 5th. Then another comment was added to the source code:

  • On August 23rd, the image (with modifications by Blizzard) was seen flying around the screen. The following message was diciphered from it:

(Translation):Here's your game
  • It's been speculated that this was supposed to be solved before the amomentincrime email.
  • Protocal Sombra has finally hit Volskaya. v2.3, to be specific.
  • New newspapers titled with "GLOBAL HACKING SPREE" have replaced the old ones in Temple of Anubis, Ilios, King's Row, Hollywood, and Nepal. Images taken from this thread.
  • It appears that the highly-anticipated Halloween Event will start soon. This image was taken from the Xbox Store, and there's also a tiny Sombra in front of the little Reaper egg. Thread.
  • Thread. Sombra's been leaked through a private Blizzard website. Contains accurate details about the Halloween brawl and even a picture of Sombra herself.
  • The day after AMIC hit 100%, a patch was released that made Bastion emit a series of beeps after standing near one of the Dorado Sombra Protocol terminals/panels. The beeps were found to be and deciphering it led to a new website: www.lumerico.mx
  • The phone number at the bottom ((510) 766-2726) led to a series of number, which resulted in TAKECONTROL after being rotated 23 times. This was then used to find https://lumerico.mx/TAKECONTROL/index.html, which looked visually similar to AMIC. There was also a picture of Sombra's famous skull icon that was named calavera.png. Calavera is Spanish for the skull associated with Day of the Dead. The text on the page read:

  • The key from the phone number (5 2 4 1 3) was used to find this:
    GFlores/g#fNwP5qJ
  • Which translates to:
I'm congratulating you for getting in here. I only wanted to know if you were ready or not. (Hey, it's really difficult to get good help lately... you should see some of the clowns I'm working with). For now, let's continue with the true challenge: taking down Lumerico Corp president Guillermo Portero. Why? Because he's a greedy and corrupt man, and an abominable thief. His plan of bringing in line the most powerful and biggest zigurat the 1st of november us nothing more than a deceit, an elaborate plan by his gang to become even more influential in the people of Mexico and get more money. And who's gonna pay for that? Common people, the ones that are always forgotten.
I've started upgrading my protocols so that they are used to take down the Lumerico Corp infraestructure and Los Muertos are also trying to go against the corruption. Meanwhile, search the Lumerico Corp site for info we can use against the bastard, or better, get his username and password so that hundreds "not so favorable" facts about the president start popping up.
I was able to get the username and pass of a Lumerico Corp employee, start here:
    GFlores/g#fNwP5qJ
  • The credentials were used on the login page, which logged the user into the account of Gonzalo Flores. There, access was granted to his emails (transcripts). None of the emails had any significance, aside from one:
    De:Valeria Valderrama[email protected] Para:Gonzalo Flores[email protected] Asunto:Página de Guillermo
Hola, Gonzo: ¿Puedes ver el tráfico de https://lumerico.mx/president-bypass? Guillermo debería ser el único accediendo desde su página de inicio privada, pero parece que está teniendo mucho tráfico. Tal vez tengamos que escalar esto a la señorita Jiménez, pero quiero estar segura de que es digno de su tiempo.
    Valeria Valderrama
  • After some complicated stuff, people were left with this presidential password: [email protected]+Bkuqd<53uJ
  • The emails for the President's account were accessed using the same methods from Flores'. After sifting through them for about 30 minutes, another email appeared - from Sombra:
Veo que se han podido infiltrar en su correo. No se preocupen, él no puede ver este correo, lo he ocultado de su vista si se conecta desde una de sus direcciones conocidas de IP.
Necesito un poco más de tiempo para establecer el próximo grupo de potocolos. Manténganse atentos a principios de la otra semana. Le echaré unos cuantos trapitos sucios en sus correos para que se filtren al público
"accidentalmente". Ya veremos como reaccionan los medios de comunicación.
  • Translation:
I see you have been able to infiltrate the mail.
Do not worry, he cannot see this email, I've hidden it from view if you connect from one of the known IP addresses.
I need a little more time to set up the next group of protocols. Stay tuned early next week. I'll take a few dirty rags in their emails to "accidentally" leak to the public. We'll see how they react to the media.
  • On November 1st, we basically had to "overheat" the LumeriCo power plant by answering 3 questions in the LumeriCo terminal (using the Tracer Trail). Upon completion, this was discovered: http://volskayaindustries.com/. Everybody was given a Día de Los Muertos spray.
  • Sombra has been revealed and will be playable on the PTR next week! Animated Short, Origin Story, Gameplay Trailer.

Mysterious Figure Ana Amari

Everything we know about a mysterious figure who's been found in-game. For all we know, this may be someone else (but Sombra is the most likely candidate). This section is kinda useless now that Ana Amari has been revealed.
  • A picture of a mysterious mask. Location. Note how there's an image of an Egyptian pyramid in the bottom-right.
  • This picture from the Gamespot video about the making of Overwatch shows a sniper that is listed in the support section. Note that each character in each section is listed alphabetically. Also note that the pose looks really similar to Widowmaker's.
  • From the same video comes a scope that looks similar to the character's mask. Here's another angle of the scope. Note that the scope isn't exactly fit for a sniper.
  • In a teaser image released before the Dorado short, there appears to be a mysterious silhouette on the rooftops. It's been debunked; just a window.
  • In the cinematic trailer that took place in the museum, there is a sniper rifle that looks like something Sombra would wield. Image 1, Image 2, Image 3
  • A recent teaser was sent out by Blizzard on Twitter, showcasing a biotic rifle and some notes by Mercy and Torbjorn. Note that the scope is literally a perfect match to this scope. Also note that the Brazilian version has Ana Amari along the top-left. (This teaser was posted in this section because it doesn't mention Sombra at all, even though it is most likely wielded by her).

Theories (Sombra's identity)

There are 6 main theories about Sombra's identity. Keep in mind that everything in this section is mainly speculation.
  1. Since Reaper is the one who's talking about Sombra, it's possible that she's a villain/works for Talon. Additionally, she's mentioned on page 4 of the Old Soldiers comic.
  2. (Popular) It's been highly speculated that Sombra is Pharah's mother Ana Amari due to their similar clothing and weaponry. Although lore-wise Amari disappeared under mysterious circumstances, it's possible that she either is fine and well or was brought back from near-death (similar to Soldier: 76, Reaper, and Genji). This also means that we'll be able to play as 5 of the 6 Overwatch founders (excluding Liao). Ana Amari and Sombra are completely separate characters.
  3. (Popular) Soldier: 76 has a voice line on Dorado where he says, "I wanna know what Lumerico's been up to. As most of you know, Soldier: 76's been targeting major corporations, facilities, and other shady organizations after the fall of Overwatch. So it's possible that Lumerico ("Clean energy for all of Mexico!") is a possible target of not only Soldier: 76, but also Sombra. So if the power plant's been locked down due to a protocol, this suggests that it's been attacked by Sombra (hence the Sombra protocol). Since a protocol is an official procedure or set of rules, we can assume that Sombra's been doing similar things to Lumerico and/or other corporations. This brings us back to the files on the table in Dorado. It's quite possible that Lumerico has kept tabs on its enemies (there is an international manhunt for Soldier: 76), but this also suggests that Sombra shares similar views/targets with 76 and is, in fact, not a villain. Are they possibly working together? Possibly. I doubt 76 would form an alliance with a stranger, so it's possible that they've known each other in the past. Can this be a reference to Alejandra? Her age is addressed in the next section.
  4. There's another theory that Sombra is Alejandra's mother (the mother who narrated Hero). Alternatively, it's also possible that Alejandra was inspired by Soldier: 76 to work for Overwatch.
  5. Another possibility is that Sombra is an omnic. You usually wouldn't say "Protocol Reaper" to send in a person; you'd say "Protocol Reaper" to send in a defense robot/omnic. Also, we already have a good omnic (Zenyatta), and a neutral one (Bastion). We're only missing a bad omnic.
  6. On Watchpoint: Gibraltar, there is an aircraft in the hangar with Lt. Maria Estrada (its pilot) on the side. Note that Amari anagrams to Maria.
  7. There's a theory that Sombra is a consciousness uploaded to Athena. In the Recall video, it seems that Reaper's virus upload was successful because it took Winston several seconds to shut down the computer while the upload was at 98% (keep in mind that the jump from 90% to 98% took very little time). Then the computer turns on and Athena proclaims that the virus has been quarantined. What's odd, though, is that the Recall interface is the first thing that appears again, and Athena doesn't discourage him this time. It's possible that Reaper and Sombra were partners before, and that Sombra died at some point in the past. Since her outfit is rather robotic, it's possible that Reaper somehow successful uploaded her consciousness to Athena.
  8. And if it's none of the above, Sombra is somebody we'll never think of.

Evidence

This is strong evidence that may support a theory (or theories) about Sombra. Some of this may not be 100% certainly true, but it should be probable to a degree.
  1. (Ana Amari as a hero): A recent find was made by Rhykker that hints that the sniper's name may be Ana. (here's his post). There's an in-depth video included in his post if you're interested in learning more about his find. Basically, he found after doing some modifications to the picture that there appears to be a very short name in the top-right. Its shortness rules out the possibility of being Athena, so the best choice is Ana.
  2. (Alejandra's age): It says on the news in Recall that LumeriCo had finished its construction on the first of its power plants in Dorado. If you compare the bell tower in Hero and in-game, it appears that there is no power plant in the former. This suggests that Hero took place before LumeriCo appeared. Additionally, on the Overwatch website, CEO Portero announces the completion of the last link in the company's network. Apparently even additional time has passed since Recall and present-day Dorado. This makes it very plausible that Alejandra had decided to follow Soldier: 76's shadow (or sombra) in taking down shady corporations (which means that she's most likely in her 20's). However, to contradict this, Soldier: 76 reportedly acquired his equipment months ago. Keep in mind that this is the future, and building power plants in months can be done. Terr_ listed a lot of good stuff in this comment.

Clues/Speculations

This is where you'll find the weird things that seem out of place in Overwatch. Some of these are unsolved, solved, related to Sombra, unrelated, etc. I'll keep the Sombra-related content near the top.
  1. There are seven sombreros in Dorado that emit strange sparks when hit. There are also seven "Protocol: Sombra" terminals in the power plant. Apparently these unique sombreros have been removed from the game.
  2. The score on the dartboard in Anubis is 7 v 13.

What to look for

In the Eurogamer interview with Jeff Kaplan, he says the following: "We have put a lot of hints, all over the game and out of the game, so I would say it's about time that people are concerned with who Sombra is. I hope they keep researching more and find more hints that are out there." followed by this:
So they haven't found everything yet?
Jeff Kaplan: No. No sir.
This suggests that there is a plethora of hints that we haven't stumbled upon yet. I'd suggest looking for more hints in ALL OF THE MAPS, if you're interested in cracking this hero's identity. Additionally (if you're insane), try matching up dates or use a spectrogram and try to find hidden things outside of the game itself. I'll try my best to update this thread ASAP if something new is found.
Edit 1: Thank you kind stranger for the gold! Totally unexpected, but thanks anyways!
Edit 2: Almost 1K replies. I didn't think this post would blow up with comments.
Edit 3: Added an excellent theory that seems extremely probable.
Edit 4: I'll try to fix the omnic theory later today, but right now I'm about to add a ton of new stuff.
Edit 5: Fixed some typos and changed Ana Amari's section a bit. I plan on doing an overhaul to this post tomorrow.
Edit 6: Added in the pilot theory and omnic theory. I'm gonna try to add another section to this post later this week.
Edit 7: Added 2 new sections. This post probably looks like a giant mess right now. If you have any suggestions, please tell me!
Edit 8: A BIG TEASER CAME OUT 6 HOURS AGO. Link
Edit 9: ANA AMARI IS HERE! I've had a great time compiling this post, but I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thank you!
Edit 10: I'll add the decoded message later today. Also, thank you for the gold!
Edit 11: Added the stealth voice lines, and another secret message has been found in the latest Dev Update video.
Edit 12: Managed to add the Summer Games clues. Please respond if I'm missing anything!
Edit 13: New clue! http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20748794686
Edit 14: We're all caught up! I decided to clean up the top of the post.
Edit 15: I'm really no longer interested in the ARG, but I've added in the leaked Halloween images.
Edit 16: Added stuff from the LumeriCo website.
Edit 17: It's been pretty painful, but the wait for Sombra is now over!
